Standing Citizens is a Italian espresso bar built around "instant coffee"; This brief moment happens every day. On your way into the office, when you come back from the meeting, or when you have 10 minutes left before the next date, you can spend it here. Transactions are faster, shorter, and may occur more than once a day.

This Rising Citizens faces Little Lonsdale Street on the ground floor of the newly renovated 485 La Trobe Street. With a small footprint, double high ceilings, adjacent to the rear entrance and above the street level, the space design presents an interesting challenge, namely how to contact the street from the location so removed.

Taking this new space as one of the transitional spaces, we found inspiration in the railway station and visualized the high ceiling and wood paneled waiting room in the 1920s, which reminds us that train travel is a luxury era. Tasmanian Stringy Bark panels on walls and joinery form a sharp contrast with strong white vertical lines, emphasizing the dramatic height of the space.
Imagine the kiosk you may encounter on the train platform. The bar area is hidden on one side of the space, providing a wide space for the low leather and wooden benches around the edge of the coffee shop. In the center of the space, the anchor point of the UC, a newspaper shelf and a luminous sign stand high. This sign tells the people on the street outside what is inside.

In a city whose design can usually be subtle or abstract, we hope to be less ambiguous and more referential. This coffee bar space tells you what it is about from the very beginning - come and get your | C | O | F | F | E | E|
